Protecting nature through research
The Cibolo Preserve is a 645-acre natural habitat and watershed area which includes a mile and a half of Cibolo Creek, downstream from Boerne City Park.
As it flows through City Park and the Preserve, Cibolo Creek supports a unique plant and animal environment and supplies groundwater recharge to the Trinity Aquifer zone through fractures and caverns in its limestone creek bed.
The mission of the Cibolo Preserve is to own, maintain, and preserve the Preserve’s real property in its natural habitat as part of the Cibolo Creek watershed for educational, scientific, and charitable purposes.
To fulfill its mission, the Preserve is operated as an outdoor laboratory for research projects conducted by the University of Texas at San Antonio, Cibolo Nature Center, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, San Antonio River Authority, and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
